IELTS General Training Writing Practice Test
Task 1
This task should take you about 20 minutes. At least 150 words should be written.
Use the checklist to check your writing task when you’re done. Then, look at the sample answer and see how it compares to your task.
You bought a new laptop online not long ago, but there was a small problem with the screen when it got there. Send a letter to the online store’s customer service department.
In your letter,
- Tell us what you ordered and when it came.
- Tell me what’s wrong with the screen.
- Tell the company what you want them to do about it.
Start your letter like this:
Hello,
Example answer
Hello,
I am writing to let you know that there is a problem with a laptop I ordered from your website last week. I ordered it on November 10th, and my order number is LT-228491. The package got here yesterday morning.
There was a thin vertical line down the left side of the screen when I opened the box and turned on the laptop for the first time. Even after restarting the device several times, the line is still there. It is very distracting, especially when I watch videos or work. The laptop seems to work perfectly in every other way.
I have sent you two pictures of the screen so you can see the problem clearly. I would appreciate it if you could arrange for a replacement as soon as possible since the laptop is only one day old and still under warranty. If that doesn’t work for you, a full refund would be fine too.
I hope to hear from you soon and that this can be fixed quickly.
Yours truly,
Michael Torres
