The five pictures show:

  • a busy city café
  • a picnic in a park
  • a family cooking and eating at home
  • a fast-food restaurant
  • a school canteen

Examiner: Do you like these places to eat? Say why or why not. I'll say that again. Do you like these places to eat? Say why or why not. All right? Now, talk together.

Candidates talk together for 1–2 minutes.

Phase 1 — Opinion questions

Examiner — "Do you think…"

  • … eating in a café is expensive?
  • … a picnic in the park is fun?
  • … cooking at home is difficult?
  • … fast food is unhealthy?
  • … eating at school is boring?

Optional prompts: Why? Why not? What do you think?

Examiner: So, A, which place to eat is the best? And you, B, which place to eat is the best? Thank you.

Phase 2 — Preference questions (up to 2 minutes)

Examiner: Now, do you prefer eating at home or in a restaurant, B? (Why?)
And what about you, A? (Do you prefer eating at home or in a restaurant?) (Why?)
Do you prefer cooking or eating out, A? (Why?)
And you, B? (Do you prefer cooking or eating out?) (Why?)
Thank you. That is the end of the test.
