Exercises & Summary
Present Simple: I do, I don’t, Do I?
The Present Simple tense is used to talk about facts, habits, routines, and things that are always true. We can make three kinds of sentences with the subject “I”: affirmative (I do), negative (I don’t), and question (Do I?).
Affirmative:
When we talk about things we do all the time, we say “I do something.”
- Example: I play football every weekend.
- Meaning: This is something that happens often.
Negative:
We use “I don’t (do not)” to say that something is not true or does not happen.
- Example: I don’t like coffee.
- Meaning: I never drink or enjoy coffee.
Questions:
We use “Do I” at the beginning of a question when we want to ask about a habit or fact.
- Example: Do I work on Saturdays?
- Meaning: I’m not sure if I usually work on Saturdays.
Summary:
- Affirmative → I do my homework every day.
- Negative → I don’t watch TV in the morning.
- Question → Do I need to call you tomorrow?
Tip: Don’t forget that we don’t add -s to the verb after “I.” Only he, she, or it uses the -s form (for example, “He does” or “She likes”).
