Parts of the Body Explanation

Learning body parts is one of the first and most useful topics in English. We use these words on a daily basis when talking about ourselves, describing people, going to the doctor or giving simple information. In this lesson you will learn common body parts and simple example sentences.

Main Parts of the Body

1. Head

Your head is on top of your body. It has your eyes, ears, nose and mouth in it.

  • He has short brown hair on his head.

2. Eyes

You see with your eyes.

  • She has big blue eyes.

3. Ears

You hear sounds with your ears.

  • My ears are cold today.

4. Nose

You use your nose to breathe and to smell .

  • My nose is red because I have a cold.

5. Mouth

You eat and talk with your mouth.

  • Open your mouth, please.

6. Lips

Your mouth is on your lips.

  • She has pink lips.

7. Tooth / Teeth

One is the Tooth. Teeth are plural.

  • I brush my teeth every morning.

8. Tongue

You use your tongue to taste food and to speak.

  • The soup is very hot. I burned my tongue.

9. Neck

Your neck connects your head to your body.

  • My neck hurts today.

Upper Body Parts

10. Shoulder

The shoulder connects your arm to your body.

  • He injured his shoulder while playing football.

11. Arm

Your arm is used for carrying and lifting things.

  • She raised her arm in class.

12. Hands

You use your hands to hold and touch.

  • Wash your hands before eating.

13. Fingers

Your fingers are on your hands.

  • I have ten fingers.

14. Chest

The front part of the top of your body is your chest .

  • He felt pain in his chest.

Lower Body Parts

15. Stomach

Your stomach is the upper part of your body below your chest.

  • My stomach hurts after eating too much.

16. Back

Back is the part of your body that is back.

  • My back hurts after carrying heavy bags.

17. Legs

You can walk, run and jump with your legs.

  • The athlete has strong legs.

18. Knee

Your knee is in the center of your leg.

  • He hurt his knee while running.

19. Foot / Feet

Foot is singular. Feet are plural.

  • My feet are tired after walking all day.
