Classes on the weekends and in the evening at the community center
A Photography
Take pictures of the world with award-winning photographer Elena Rossi. This course, which is hands-on, teaches both digital and film photography. You’ll learn how to compose shots, use lighting tricks, and edit videos with free software. Most sessions include taking pictures outside in the park or on the streets of the city, as long as the weather is nice. We especially welcome beginners, and if you don’t have your own camera, you can borrow one.
B Yoga and Mindfulness
Our popular yoga classes, taught by certified instructor Raj Patel, can help you feel better physically and mentally. Every Tuesday and Thursday night from 7:00 to 8:30, there are classes. We do gentle Hatha yoga that is good for people of all ages and fitness levels. Breathing, relaxing, and lowering stress are very important to us. You just need to wear comfortable clothes; mats are provided.
C Italian Language
Ciao! Maria Lombardi, a native speaker, will give you a fun introduction to Italian. The class meets on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings. You’ll quickly pick up how to talk to people, use basic grammar, and learn useful phrases for eating out or traveling. We also learn about Italian culture through songs, food tastings, and movie clips. We accept people of all skill levels, even those who are just starting out.
D Carpentry and Woodworking
Learn how satisfying it is to make things with your own hands. Tom Hargreaves, a skilled craftsman, teaches this hands-on class in our fully stocked workshop. You’ll learn how to safely use both hand tools and power tools while making small pieces of furniture like shelves, boxes, or birdhouses to take home. Because of the machines, only people 18 and older can take the class.
E Creative Writing
Published author Sarah Jenkins will help you let your imagination run wild. You can work on short stories, poems, or memoirs during the Friday night sessions. In a friendly group, you’ll get helpful feedback and learn about plot, character, dialogue, and publishing options. This course will inspire you whether you are a complete beginner or have been writing for years.
F Ballroom Dancing
F. Dancing in the ballroom
Carlos and Sofia Mendoza, professional dancers, will teach you how to dance classic ballroom and Latin styles. On Saturday nights, you can take classes in the waltz, foxtrot, cha-cha, rumba, and tango. You don’t need a partner or any experience to join; we switch partners so everyone gets a lot of practice. The course is meant for people who have never danced before, but people who have danced before are also welcome.
