The story of tea Tea is the most popular drink in the world after water, and it has been enjoyed for thousands of years. According to an old Chinese story, tea was by accident when some leaves fell into a pot of boiling water. Tea reached Europe in the seventeenth century, where it was at first extremely and only rich families could afford it. Over the next two hundred years the price fell, and tea slowly became part of daily for ordinary people. Today the plant is grown in more than forty countries.
