Library delivers books by bicycle

A town library has started a new bicycle service for people who cannot easily visit. Two librarians ride electric bikes and carry books in strong waterproof boxes. The service began with older residents, but people with short-term injuries can now use it too.

Readers order up to four books by phone or online before Wednesday. The librarians deliver them on Friday afternoon and collect finished books at the same time. The service is free because a local cycling club paid for the bikes. In its first month, it made 120 deliveries.

Students turn food waste into garden soil

Students at Hill Road School noticed that the cafeteria threw away many fruit skins and vegetables. They placed special green bins beside the kitchen and began collecting this waste. Every afternoon, a small team takes it to large compost boxes behind the sports hall.

After several months, the waste becomes rich soil. The school uses it to grow tomatoes, beans and herbs. Last year, the garden produced 80 kilograms of food for the cafeteria. The students now plan to teach three nearby schools how to start similar projects.
